Doug's
'64 Pontiac GTO
|
I bought my GTO in August of 1971 when
I was a sophmore in high school in Winfield, KS. At that
time, it was a black-on- black, 389 4 barrel, 4-speed.
I was the envy of my peers!
In 1974, came my first engine change to a 1967 Pontiac
400 with some goodies; torker intake, holley 800 double-pumper,
headers, etc. The 400 engine ran pretty good at the drag
strip, ran 14.10 quarter mile, with a peg-leg rear end,
street radials and a very inexperienced driver. Believe
it or not, after driving the goat during 3 years of high
school and 6 years of college, (I had put on 100,000
miles), it was ready for a face lift!
In 1980 it got some fresh paint, (Big Bad Orange), and
a 421 factory tri-power engine out of a 1966 Bonneville.
I still have the factory tri-power in it and in recent
years, added a 068 cam.
Today the GTO is still, as always, a blast to drive and
criuse anywhere and everywhere I want to go.
